The 2025 International Roadcheck is fast approaching! From May 13 to 15, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will carry out this high-visibility inspection event across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. During this 72-hour blitz, inspectors will focus on ensuring commercial vehicles and drivers are adhering to safety regulations, while also promoting education and compliance across the trucking industry.

🚨 What’s New for 2025?

This year, CVSA has spotlighted two primary areas for the Roadcheck:

  1. Driver Hours-of-Service (HOS) Compliance: Inspectors will focus on ensuring that drivers are complying with the HOS regulations, which require accurate records of duty status (RODS) that track driving hours, rest periods, and off-duty time.
  1. Tire Safety: Inspectors will be paying special attention to tire conditions, checking for proper tread depth, inflation, and signs of damage such as bulges, cuts, or improperly repaired tires.

🛠️ What to Expect During Inspections

The Level I inspections conducted during Roadcheck 2025 are comprehensive and thorough. Expect inspectors to review:

  • Driver Documentation: Inspectors will ensure that your commercial driver’s license (CDL), medical examiner’s certificate, RODS, and drug and alcohol clearinghouse status are all up-to-date and compliant.
  • Vehicle Condition: The inspection will cover essential vehicle components such as the brake system, coupling devices, cargo securement, driveline components, fuel system, lighting devices, steering mechanisms, suspension systems, and tires.

If your vehicle passes the inspection without any critical violations, you may be awarded a CVSA decal, which will indicate that your vehicle passed the inspection and is exempt from additional inspections for the next three months. However, vehicles with out-of-service violations will not be allowed to operate until the issues are addressed and resolved.

Tips for U.S. Truckers to Prepare

To ensure you’re ready for the Roadcheck and to avoid potential violations, here are some preparation tips:

  • Review HOS Regulations: Make sure your RODS are accurate and fully up to date. Double-check that you’re in full compliance with the current HOS rules.
  • Inspect Your Tires: Tire safety will be a primary focus this year, so check for proper inflation, sufficient tread depth, and any signs of damage such as bulges or cuts.
  • Ensure Your Documentation Is in Order: Make sure all required documents, including your CDL, medical certification, RODS, and any applicable drug and alcohol clearinghouse records, are in order and easily accessible.
  • Perform Thorough Pre-Trip Inspections: Conduct detailed vehicle checks before every trip, paying special attention to key areas of the vehicle that will be inspected during the Roadcheck event.
